Q

Hi I am a 19 y.o. gay Asian American. I am not closeted, but there are a handful of people who don't know. I often feel discriminated within the gay community because I'm Asian. What do I do?

Margaret Cho responded on 02/16/2012
A

It's totally justified. Asians, as well as all people of color have a tough time within the gay community. Its often like - we can't be racist if we are already of another minority - but that is usually what ends up happening. I found there's a lot of racial insensitivity within the LGBT community because they're so busy fighting for other issues, like equal rights and dealing with homophobia, that there is a feeling like they are above reproach, but that isn't true. Know that you are not imagining these things - they are real and also know that it is ok to have criticism and complaints about the community you are a part of. It doesn't make us less of a part of this community to be critical of it. Know your voice is important. I would urge you to connect to online support for young queers of color, read what others are feeling, get in contact - you are not alone. We have each other - and you are surrounded by us.

While trying to be appropriate:) my husband and I were wondering can we look forward to anymore photo shoots ala Austin Young?

Margaret Cho responded on 02/16/2012
A

Yes! i just did a shoot with Austin at my house on the day my new motorcycle arrived. We did a lot of shots with me naked on my bike! They are tasteful but also very funny and cute I think. Leave it to Austin - I always wind up naked in our shoots. He's a tremendous artist and one of my closest friends. I adore him!

Are there any plans to add more t-shirt designs to the online fan store? A t-shirt of YOU as Captain Cameltoe would be an awesome one :). Or, hands on a steering wheel with 1 finger pointing up?

Margaret Cho responded on 02/01/2012
A

Hey that is a great idea. I would love to make a Captain Cameltoe shirt! Yes there are plans for new shirts and they will be up in the store soon!

Are you where you wanted/expected to be with your life today?

Margaret Cho responded on 02/01/2012
A

Oh yes, and way past where I imagined I'd be. i I have a really good time, every day, always, non stop - it's crazy. I work constantly but it doesn't feel like work, it's all just super fun. I hadn't even pictured my life being like this. I just kept doing what i love, comedy and then just kept working at it. I am very happy with my life, and I am very lucky to be living it.

Who is your favorite comedian that most of us haven't heard of yet?

Margaret Cho responded on 02/01/2012
A

I love Fortune Feimster, but lots of people are getting to know her from her great work on Chelsea Lately. I also love Robert Hawkins and Jim Short. And Ian Harvie and Selene Luna - these are the funniest people working right now. i love comedy and am still a big dorky fan of so many folks. It's the greatest art form.

I missed you when you came to the UK last year. Are you coming back anytime soon? And if so will you consider coming to other cities besides London? (Like Birmingham maybe?)

Margaret Cho responded on 02/01/2012
A

I'd love to come to Birmingham! That would be amazing. I am headed to London this week to do a tv show with Morgan Spurlock. It's far to go for just one day of working! I will do a run in the west end likely in the fall - hoping that i can get back to the UK more i really love it!

What's your guilty TV pleasure?

Margaret Cho responded on 02/01/2012
A

I never feel guilty watching tv, in fact, i really don't watch enough of it. I think the trashiest thing i watch is probably Jersey Shore, but i think it's brilliant. It's not even trashy to me! I love it!

If you could play in a movie, Showtime movie, or play with a male star, who would you pick among these hottie actors: (1) Viggo Mortensen, (2) Michael Fassbender, (3) R.Downey, Jr., or (4) Jude Law?

Margaret Cho responded on 02/01/2012
A

I think Robert Downey Jr because he has been through so much and lived to tell - he's a fantastic actor and he was on Square Pegs. I feel like i grew up alongside him.

Whats your favorite food?

Margaret Cho responded on 02/01/2012
A

I think it might be mochi, and any type of rice cake dish. I am so into all the really sticky korean and japanese sweets that are based on rice cakes. it's a kind of food i can eat exclusively. It's so goddamned good.
Also i love pasta which has a similar consistency.
